With the snow beginning to melt on the mountain, various Yukigata (patterns of snow that remain on the mountain) start to appear on the mountain sides. One of the famous Yukigata that can be found is in the shape of a white horse. This is where the village name “Hakuba” (meaning “white horse” in Chinese Characters) was derived from.
